I aquired another synth pickup - a GK-2A external. That's one of those warty ones that hang off your guitar body and look pretty Rube Goldberg. I began to entertain the notion of another modification. The spacing on the hex pickup didn't fit any of my other beater guitars except the Axstar. Rather than disassemble the GK-2A to mount it internally I excavated a cavity on the upper horn and installed it flush with the body. The cable dropped into that silly Vai handle. By happenstance I saw display of neon poster paint and decided yellow was as good a colour as anything else - a couple of coats of polyurethane later it was as done as I wanted. The neck is a pleasant surprise; nice maple and a good contour. More important, the synth pickup works just fine, so I have another midi controller! |
